Declaration Period – February 10 to April 30

Following the direction of the Council, the Vacant Unit Tax (VUT) declaration period for the City of Hamilton will officially open on February 10, 2025, and will remain open until April 30, 2025. During this time, property owners are required to submit their declarations regarding the occupancy status of their residential properties.

To file your Vacant Unit Tax declaration, please visit the official City of Hamilton website:

Before submitting your declaration, ensure that you have the necessary documents ready, such as a Notice to Declare letter or a property tax bill from the city. You will also need the access code provided in these documents to complete the filing process.

Failure to declare within the designated period may result in penalties or your property being deemed vacant, potentially leading to taxation under the VUT program. Don’t miss the deadline—submit your declaration on time to comply with the city’s requirements.

If you have any questions, please contact your accountants.
